Public Webinar Discussion; Mature and Old-Growth Protections

January 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Kentucky Heartwood

The Biden administration has announced that it is taking comments on a proposal aimed at protecting mature and old-growth forests across America’s national forest system. The proposal includes some great language that could represent critical protections and planning for old-growth forests.

But it also leaves the door wide open for the Forest Service to continue cutting and clearing mature and old-growth forests when they decide that preserving these forests “is not relevant or beneficial.”

To help the public better understand and engage in the ongoing public comment process, Kentucky Heartwood will host an online discussion led by our Ecologist, Jim Scheff. The discussion will cover the positive aspects of the proposal along with its flaws and vulnerabilities, with an emphasis on how it could affect the conservation of mature and old-growth forests across Kentucky’s Daniel Boone National Forest.
