SUMMARY:Beaver Creek Wilderness Crosscut Saw Volunteer Days
DESCRIPTION:Join the collaboration of Kentucky Heartwood\, SAWS (Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards)\, and the Forest Service for a day clearing downed trees in Beaver Creek Wilderness. As a federally designated wilderness area\, we must use traditional tools like the crosscut saw\, handsaw\, and ax to remove trees from the trail corridor. No experience required\, only a willingness to do some fun and hard work outside in November. Throughout the day you will learn about the tools\, trail maintenance\, and the importance of wilderness areas. \n  \nWhat: Volunteer day clearing downed trees in response to the damage from Hurricane Helene\nDates: Friday November 15 & Saturday November 16th\nTime: 10am-4pm\nWhere: Swain Ridge Trailhead parking lot (https://maps.app.goo.gl/jcxWQz6QQHogsYXWA)\nHow: EVENT FULL!!\n\n\nRequirements to Volunteer:\n\nWillingness to work rain or shine in November (there are some weather conditions that may cancel the event)\nAbility to hike 3-6 miles\nLong pants\nHiking boot with ankle support\nWater for the day\nFood for the day\nWillingness to wear pants\, boots\, gloves\, eye protection\, and hart hard during the course of the day (gloves\, eye protection\, and hard hat will be provided)\nAdvocating for your safety and listening to others in regards to safety\nPaperwork and Waivers\n\n\nRecommended items for the day:\n\nBackpack for food\, water\, and jacket\nRain coat\nExtra layers\nPersonal work gloves
